Description
The seventh volume is a collection of the strongest entries for the 2017 Sol Plaatje European Union Poetry Award. This edition of the anthology continues the legacy of social and political activist, intellectual giant and writer Solomon Tshekisho Plaatje (1876–1932). The anthology is a truly democratic as well as creative effort. The poems offer readers sensibilities, observations and responses to the complex, nuanced and uncomfortable realities of life in South Africa—past, present and future. Written in Afrikaans, English, Sepedi, Sesotho, Setswana, isiXhosa, and isiZulu, and accompanied by English translations where relevant, they reflect the diversity of the nation. These poems are a reflection and exploration of humanity, of how it manifests itself—or doesn’t—in South African society.
