The Commune invites you to a celebration discussion focussing on Female Fear Factory by Pumla Dineo Gqola, winner of this year’s HSS Award for Best Non-Fiction Monograph.

Female Fear Factory is an insightful and sobering account of global patriarchal violence while it simultaneously offers a hopeful vision through the eyes of an unapologetic feminist. 

Author: Pumla Dineo Gqola is a feminist writer and Professor of Literary and Cultural Studies. She is the South African Research Chairs Initiative (SARChI) Chair in African Feminist Imagination at Nelson Mandela University. Her books are: What is slavery to me? Discussant/Facilitator: Angelo Fick is the Director of Research at the Auwal Socioeconomic Research Institute (ASRI) in Johannesburg. He has written widely on post-millennial post-apartheid South Africa’s political economy, and remains interested in broader issues of justice, freedom, and equality.
